Stephen Joseph Solly, or Stephen Solly the Younger, was born in 1520 in Ash, Kent, England. 


His parents were Stephen Solly (1490-1559)  and Christyan Harfleete (1494-1559)


He was a landowner. 


He married Margaret Elizabeth Hougham in 1547. Her great great grandfather was Richard de Hugham of Ash, Prior of Dover during 1350. Further back, Robert de Hougham was a knight who served William the Conquerer in 1066. William de Averanche of Normandy was his grandfather. The Hougham family tree goes as far back as the second century. A Hougham ancestor, Emina D'Avranches married Harrolager of Iceland (859-896). Other Scandinavian ancestors of Hougham include names such as Gold tooth Halfden (660-730) of Solor, Hedmark, Norway, King Yngvi-frey of Uppsala and Yngvi Turkey Frey, King of Sweden (193-274, Noatun, Sweden).
