John Solly or Sollye was born in Ash, Kent, England.

His parents were Stephen Joseph Solly (1520-1590)  and his mother was Margaret Elizabeth Hougham (1526-1611).

He was a mixture of the Solly anglo-saxon blood and the Hougham Swedish and Norwegian blood.

He inherited Great Pedding Farm from his father Stephen Jospeh Solly of Pedding.

He married Christian Piper.

Their children included Richard Solly (1598-1653) and Stephen Solly of Pedding (alive 1661).

It seems as though Richard Solly did not inherit the title 'of Pedding' after his name.
